How to help us as a Business

If you work in business and oppose HS2 please sign our simple form here.  This will help us counteract the impression, that the Pro-HS2 lobby are giving, that business is behind HS2.

How to help us as an Individual

Below are some simple things that you can do to help our campaign:

  • Writing to MP's
We've made it easy to help you write. Go to highspeedrail.org.uk/xaa yourself and in 2 minutes you will have sent a letter.

Then phone a friend and get them to go there

    1.  Ask if they are by a computer with Internet access.

    2.   Sure you can wait while they power up the computer. Use the time to remind them how the Government plan to squander £ billions of their money on a completely unnecessary project that only helps a few people when instead they should be investing in transport infrastructure in your friend's area.

    3.  Tell them to go to www.highspeedrail.org.uk/xaa

    4.  Suggest they click either 'click here is see the impact of HS2 on your city' on the left hand side then 'email your MP'; or just click 'email your MP' on the right hand side.

    5.  Stay on the line to help them if necessary until an email is sent!

  • Write to your local MP, expressing your concerns about HS2.  If you are not sure who your MP is click here.  Copy your letter to Justine Greening (Secretary of State for Transport),Theresa Villiers (Minister of State for Transport), Norman Baker (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport) and the Transport Select Committee

  • Sign the new petition. All previous petitions are null and void and we must have a government website one to be taken seriously.  http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/353.  Please encourage all your friends and family to sign up too.

  • Did you know that an Ipsos MORI opinion poll said just 8% of people thought the government plans for a new High Speed Rail link (HS2) between London and Birmingham should be protected from transport spending cuts?. And only 3% thought it should be a government transport priority?
  • Add your comments to articles when invited to blog
  • Did you know that the government came up with alternatives to HS2 that were also better value for money?

The government can save about £16bn of the £18bn they want to spend on a new high speed railway by uprating and debottlenecking our existing West Coast Mainline rail  infrastructure.  On government's own figures their alternative to HS2 ie 'Rail Package 2' gives a BETTER Net Benefit Ratio than High Speed 2 ie 3.63 instead of 2.7. So whats wrong with the best? Whats more, the government are spending over £1bn this Parliament towards preparing for HS2 and this is about 50% of the £2bn cost of doing this Rail Package 2 alternative, AND with extra rolling stock it can give us all the capacity the DfT say we need. We don't have the long distances to cover like Europe.  Lets have the BEST solution for OUR country, and leave more cash for schools and hospitals.
