New Age of Rail: is the train key to our future vision of place?
31 May 2011
6:30 PM - 7:45 PM
Venue:
RIBA, 66 Portland Place , London W1B 1AD
Description:
Rail was a key component in the growth of our cities and contributed to the transformation of British society. Where rail went, economic and social enterprise followed and was manifested in bold design.
Can railways once again provide a new strategic purpose? Is rail the opportunity to re-think the design of our cities and our economy?
Join a panel discussion looking ahead to future rail development and design.
Chaired by Peter Bill, Evening Standard columnist, with contributions from:
• Sir Peter Hall, Professor of Planning and Regeneration at the Bartlett
• Dr. Andrew McNaughton, chief engineer at High Speed Two
• Chris Williamson of Weston Williamson Architects
• John Harding, Lead architect at Crossrail.
